Fathers and Sons Campout

As many of you know, David rather have his toenails pulled out than go camping. He's certain he's going to be eaten by bears and does not know how to live without a flushing toilet. I laughed and laughed when after being called as the Elders Quorum president he was told the first thing he needed to do was plan the Fathers and Sons outing. Luckily David's counselor use to be the scout master and David promptly put him in charge of Fathers and Sons. David's only assignment was to find a speaker for the fireside devotional that night. But then it ended up that he would be the only member of the presidency up there Friday night but was assured help and the scout trailer with all the equipment would come by Saturday morning. I was down right scared for the safety of my boys (all three of them). But of course Jacob and Adam had a blast and want to go camping ever night now. Even David came home and said we needed to invest in camping equipment. My reply was "who are you and what have you done with my husband?" So the overnight was a roaring success and I think I was the only one who didn't get any sleep that night. I can't sleep when David isn't home.

Jacob and Adam with all of their camping equipment thanks to Grandma and Grandpa.

Jacob and Adam hiking after a dinner of hot dogs, chips, juice boxes, and licorice.

Below, Adam is drinking a juice box in front of the fire. I made the mistake of packing them 16 juice boxes. You know just in case. Well, David just let the boys have at them and then came home complaining how the only problem with camping was having to take the boys to the outhouse ever 2 seconds. He swears he went to the bathroom with them at least 30 times. One time he left Adam with Brother Caldwell so he could take Jacob but Adam didn't want to be left. So David told Adam to sing Brother Caldwell a song. Adam promptly busted out Families Can Be Together Forever and sang it over and over again until his dad got back. How cute is that!

Adam asleep in his chair in front of the fire. Both of the boys just konked out in their chairs around 11:00 pm and David had to carry them to the tent.

Adam, Jacob and Jake M. (Jacob's friend) racing around camp. Jacob sure was happy when Jake showed up late Friday night with his Dad. These boys were the youngest there by far.

P.S. The outhouse story reminded me of something Adam said when we were at Goblin Valley last month. They only have outhouses there too with pit toilets and of course it was the first time Adam had seen one. I was trying not to make a big deal out of it because I was afraid he wasn't going to sit on it. Adam looked at it and said "Whoa, that is a big poop, mom! Somebody didn't flush."
Remember this is the boy who pooped in my fridge (see photo below) and then shut the door for me to discover an hour later.
