Vacation

For awhile now David and I have been wanting to take a vacation with the boys. So for weeks now I've been asking people where they vacationed with their young kids besides Disneyland and I've been on the internet for hours pricing things out and looking for things to do. We really want to take the boys to Cancun but finally decided Matthew was still a little too young for that trip so instead I decided to look at something closer. I proposed a Southern Utah trip - Goblin Valley and Arches. David has been to Arches and Moab before so he thought that would be fun. I grew up camping, hiking and 4 wheeling all over the San Rafael Swell and I had lots of good memories so I was excited to take the boys. Last Monday I told David that because of callings and David's work schedule the only week in May that would work was that week. Wednesday he called me and said "Let's leave tonight and get away for a few days." Again NOT the way I usually plan vacations. So I packed and David got home and we left for Green River, Utah. We got to the hotel (no camping for David!) at 9:30 and the boys went straight for the swimming pool. Thank you to Carie and Hugo for letting us borrow lifevests for them. The boys were in heaven just playing in the pool. Next time I'll just get a hotel in Provo with a swimming pool. :) Thursday we spent the day in Goblin Valley.

The boys LOVED climbing all over the rocks and since David was smart enough to bring their helmets, we just let them go. Jacob climbed up every rock he encounter. Thanks to Udine and Michelle for letting us use their baby backpack so Matthew could go hiking with us too. Then we went back to Green River for some more swimming. We tried to find a place to eat in Green River and my brother, Aaron, told us to eat at Ray's Tavern for burgers. My dad and brothers frequent Green River to ride their dirt bikes in the Swell. However we didn't feel like burgers so we tried this other place. Bad idea! Very bad idea! Next time I'll listen, Aaron, I promise! After our horrible dinner which I did not eat more than 3 bites of, we watched a movie together in the hotel room. Friday we spent the day in Arches.

There is a hike there called Sandstone Arch and we played in the sand there for 2 1/2 hours. Then we went into Moab for some great Italian food for dinner and of course the boys had to go swimming before bed. Saturday morning we woke up to pouring rain so instead of hiking some more we just packed up and came home. So we got home early but that turned out good so we could do laundry and get ready for Sunday. It was a fabulous trip and I'm already planning our next one. I still want to do Cancun but considering the travel advisor in effect I'm glad I didn't buy tickets. We'll wait until this health scare is long gone!

Sandstone arch is my kids' favorite too. Someday ask to see the picture of Nate standing on top of that arch with the kids in the sand under him. Glad you had fun!
