For Mothers Day I asked for raised garden beds to plant a garden. We've never planted a garden before. In fact we sodded over the area that the previous owners used as a garden patch the first summer we lived here. Of course it took me two weeks and 50 hours of research before I decided what I want it built out of, where to put it, and what kind of soil to use and what plants to plant but that's just my type A personality shining through. David should have antipicated that one. But being the gracious husband that he is he built my box, ripped the sod up, leveled the box and then took a day off of work (sacrifices of all sacrifices) and hauled 2 cubic yards of compost into the box and all of my flower beds. All I did was plant the plants. Oh and I did shovel the compost from the back of the truck into the wheelbarrows for David. But I couldn't have done that either if it weren't for my sweet neighbor Julane who came down and held Matthew while I did it. I think Julane even took a turn at the shoveling too. Thanks, Julane! And an even bigger thank you to David and a Happy Mothers Day to me!

I'm really excited about this garden. I planted tomatoes, serrano peppers, onion and cilantro to make salsa. If I can ever find a tomatillo plant I will plant it in its reserve spot and that's for more salsa and enchilada sauce. David and I about both died on the spot when Cook's greenhouse told us they were out of tomatillos. Then I planted red bell peppers, lots of cucumbers (that's the only vegetable my boys eat besides corn) and pumpkins. The pumpkins and most of the cucumbers are out in the landscape beds and not the garden box because they take up too much room. Then I planted a little herb garden with basil, tons of cilantro, chives and parsley. I don't really know what I'm doing but I'm learning as I go and hopefully something will grow. I told David I feel like the people in the Book of Mormon who prayed over their flocks and fields. My fields are going to need lots of prayers if I'm in charge of them.
